ASCLD Recognizes the 2023 Forensic Research Committee (FRC) Innovation Award Recipients, Chris Ernhardt, Sarah Ingram, M. Katherine Philpott from Virginia Commonwealth University – Department of Forensic Sciences, Richmond, VA.
GARNER, NC: The American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD) announced the 2023 Forensic Research Committee (FRC) Innovation Award Recipients, Chris Ernhardt, Sarah Ingram, M. Katherine Philpott from Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Forensic Sciences, Richmond, VA.
Dr. Tracey Dawson Green, Professor and Chair of the Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Forensic Science, accepted the award on behalf of the award recipients. The award was presented during the Awards Ceremony at the conclusion of the 2023 ASCLD 50th Anniversary Symposium held in Austin, Texas. The project was titled: Novel Method for Determining Time Since Deposition for Trace DNA Samples and included collaborations with the San Francisco Police Department Laboratory and Ontario Centre for Forensic Science. The study was presented at multiple conferences in 2022 including the International Society of Forensic Genetics conference in September 2022 and the Human Identification Symposium in March 2022, and published in Forensic Science International: Genetics Supplement Series in December 2022.
About the ASCLD Forensic Research Committee Innovation Award: The goal of the Forensic Research Committee Innovation Award is to recognize activities highlighting new technologies, protocols, or tools that impact the operational forensic science laboratory. The award is open to scientists from all disciplines in operational U.S. forensic laboratories (Bio/DNA, drug chemistry, toxicology, fingerprints, questioned documents, trace/microscopy, firearms/toolmarks, other) who have performed the highlighted work in the past two years.
