FBI Allele Frequency Ammendments Overview

On June 30, ASCLD sponsored a webinar titled ASCLD: FBI Allele Frequency Amendments Overview – Managers Perspective and Legal Considerations which was a great success. There was over 450 participants. Tina Delgado from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Gary Sims of California Department of Justice, Ray Wickenheiser of the New York State Police Crime Laboratory System and Matt Redle, Sheridan WY County and Prosecuting Attorney, presented.

This presentation was designed to assist Crime Lab Management to provide timely assessment, correction, notification, reporting and documentation; enabling Crime Labs to continue to earn and keep public trust. This webinar provided a high level overview of the issue by the FBI including history on the errors, their detection, correction, and the dissemination of information. It also included the laboratory directors’ perspective and legal issues that laboratories may need to consider

RTI International’s Center for Forensic Science presents Just Science, a podcast for forensic science professionals and anyone with an interest in learning more about how real crime laboratories are working to do their job better, produce more accurate results, become more efficient, and solve more crimes. This podcast deals with a range of issues, including leadership in the crime lab, new technologies, sexual assault response, and broader challenges for science and public security. We cover every type of forensic discipline, including DNA, fingerprints, trace evidence, toxicology, controlled substances, crime scene investigation, and much more!

The first season of Just Science was developed by RTI International through the Forensic Technology Center of Excellence, a program of the National Institute of Justice, United States Department of Justice and funded in part through cooperative agreement [2016-MU-BX-K110].

Just Science is hosted by Dr. John Morgan, Senior Director of the Center for Forensic Science at RTI.

Cognitive Bias Training

This self-paced online professional training program focuses on Minimizing bias in Forensic Decision Making. This program covers brain and cognitive issues relating to bias and cognitive processing. It then connects the cognitive science issues to practical and specific issues in forensic decision making. In addition to knowledge about the cognitive factors in forensic decision making, the program also provides practical solutions to address weaknesses as well as best practices to enhance forensic practices.
