ASCLD Membership Drive

Dear Members- we are just over 4 months into our ASCLD membership drive. The current goal of our membership committee is to partner with advocacy to identify a minimum of two qualified individuals from each state or country that would be an asset to our organization in advance of our ASCLD Annual Symposium in Baltimore MD, September 12-16, 2010.

Membership is open to all qualified individuals consisting of forensic scientists, educators, managers and law enforcement officers whose major function is management within a crime laboratory. This includes not only laboratory directors but other supervisors/managers that work in both public and private crime laboratories.

We need your help to encourage those supervisors that you have identified for future development through your succession planning efforts to join ASCLD. This is a great opportunity for them to gain management and accreditation training, participate in and contribute to national discussions that can benefit all laboratory operations and provide them with invaluable access to a network of other forensic laboratory supervisors and managers throughout the international forensic community.

We also urge you to outreach to other lab managers and supervisors working in both private and public forensic sectors in your surrounding communities to invite them to join our efforts. Through education and open lines of communication, we will meet our advocacy goals of becoming an even stronger, more united and informed voice of leadership in the forensic community. Through active membership, our circle of influence grows stronger everyday to shape the future of forensic reform.

We have all witnessed that when misguided legislative proposals are left in the hands of those who are not vested in providing the highest quality forensic services and unchecked articles circulate through our local media markets, the collective result is further decline in the public's confidence in our nation's crime laboratories. ASCLD is committed to provide the platform for lab managers to use our collective voice to create and influence responsible legislation, help our stakeholders understand the complex issues from our insider's perspective on forensic reform, and prepare us to actively participate in national discussions whose outcomes have a direct impact on the future of our forensic laboratories

ASCLD is a strong and credible organization committed to excellence through leadership in forensic science management. Help us to attract other members in our community that desire to learn and contribute to our mission. Our membership committee headed by Chair Jean Stover, can assist applicants with letters of recommendations and information about membership and its many benefits. Contact Jean with your questions at Jean_Stover@isp.state.i.us or visit our website at www.ASCLD.org for more information.
The supervisors and managers in your laboratory and surrounding community may eventually aspire to take on greater responsibility as a crime laboratory manager. You can help them take the first step by mentoring them through an association with our ASCLD membership so they develop into confident leaders in one of the most honorable of public service professions in the criminal .

Thank you for your dedication and continued support of our membership drive efforts,
